Interview with The Party Technician0
Today we are interviewing Gerhard Meyer, owner at The Party Technician. He tells us a bit more about what he does. If you want to tell us more about your business, remember to sign up for one of our advanced packages.
Please tell us more about all the services that you supply?
THE PARTY TECHNICIAN is a events company based in Brackenfell that specializes in all types of events. We cover the entire Cape Town area.
We specialize in the following services:
*Cakes and/or cupcakes
Our décor shop is still under construction.
Where did your love for DJing/entertaining people come from?
I’ve always loved music since I was a little child. It started at house parties and family gatherings by getting compliments from friends and family with my taste in music. I then started my own business since March 2013 and I am very fortunate to say that the business has grown in great size and stature since then.
Do you do all kinds of events? What are your favorite?
We do all types of events except funerals.
Our favorite is weddings and birthday parties.
What is the song that is currently the most requested? What old song do you get requested most? And what song do you refuse, or try to refuse to play, even if you have it?
We get a lot of requests.
Dance favourite is Timmy Trumpet – Freaks
Langarm favorite is Eden – Superhero or Summer of 69
Old School is Journey – Don’t stop believing
We take requests on the evening and should we feel the song requested will not suite the dance vibe on the floor we will always try and work it in later during the evening. Guests must just be patient and keep their ears open for their requested song.
Highlights and lo-lights. What was one of your favorite memories in this line of work? And tell us about one big disaster that happened, especially early on in your career – we all have those!
Highlights is all the happy clients and positive testimonials and referrals we receive after every event.
Lo-lights is annoying drunk guests requesting a song over and over again or thinks they can be a better DJ.
At my very first wedding the power went during dinner and I thought my mixer blew as my laptop screen was still on and so I rushed to my vehicle to retrieve our backup mixer and only when I connected the new mixer the waiter came to me and said that the coffee machine tripped the power at the main switchboard. I was very glad my mixer didn’t have to be repaired and the wedding continued. It ended up in a party till the early hours of the morning.
Which events are the hardest to do?
We have done all types of parties and weddings.
Traditional Afrikaans and English weddings
Same sex weddings
